Friends of the Library is a community based support group whose aim is to enhance services that might otherwise be impossible. The Friends work closely with the Library Board and the Staff but are independent of them.

 

Priorities

  • To promote literacy;
  • To assist the library in meeting the informational, cultural, educational and recreational needs of our community;
  • To publicize library services.

  • Summer Literacy Programs
  • Summer Craft "n Reading Program
  • Reading Partnership Program (one-on-one tutoring)
  • Purchases of New Books
  • Fun Time Circle Kids
  • Video Pool
  • Book Sale - Purchase books
  • Seating areas
  • Shelving
  • Presentation to a student each year at three area schools of the "Friends of the Library Literacy Award" In recognition of personal achievements and motivation in encouraging and promoting Literacy.

 

SUMMER LITERACY PROGRAMS ENCOURAGING READING
Has offered since 1995 at the library "Craft & Reading"
(enjoy themed crafts and how many books can you read over the summer) and the
"Reading Partnership" (one-on-one tutoring)

 

The Summer Program cost approximately $10,000 ($150.00 / child) to run each summer. Each year the library offers these programs to every child in our community. But without the Friends of the Library help this would not be possible!

This is where we need your help! Personal Donations, Sponsor a child, Business donations, or Join the friends of the library and lend a hand in their fundraising efforts.

 

Benefits to children participating
-To encourage literacy by enabling readers to enhance and improve reading skills throughout the summer
-To provide an organized and stimulating program of interest to children
- To give children a positive experience and carry the benefits of our program back to school

Benefits for student employees
-To provide experienceto students who are hoping to make working children part of their career goal
-To provide experience to young employees with planning, organization, good work habits and leadership skills
-To providestudents the opportunity to help children in their quest for learning

-To make a contribution to a learning community
-To gain experience in resume writing the interviewing process and to obtain on the job experience in a variety of fields

 

How can you support literacy

  • Make a donation to programs, we have a charitable # and a tax receipt will be issued
  • Donate a Raffle prize for our "raffle for literacy"
  • Help Friends of the Library with their fundraising events
  • Sponsor a child this summer.
